Morning, all!
I celebrated my 43rd birthday this week, and I’m feeling great.
Continuing from last week’s excerpt re: “Truck Me Back to Normal,” published by MLR Press…

The foreman stood, and his very height and breadth shrank the room even more. “My name is Barrimore Lancett. I know people call me Bear behind my back but you will call me Mr. Lancett, or sir, to my face. The only person on this compound who is allowed to call me Bear in the presence of others is Meg. She’s my step-sister and part-owner of this farm.”
I stood and shook the hand he held out. “Yes, sir. Thank you, sir.” I almost saluted him, but figured that would be pushing it.

Sounds like he is not a fan of his nickname. Happy birthday!
He isn’t. 🙂 Thank you!
Happy birthday!
And bear might have taken the salute as mockery, I imagine. So good call avoiding it.
Indeed! And thanks. 🙂
Nice snippet, and I’m glad you had a nice birthday 🙂
Thank you, it was awesome. 🙂
Cute! Happy birthday!
Thank you 🙂
Bear sounds like a force of nature. Happy birthday
Thank you! He is. 🙂
LOL!
Hehe 😀
Ha! Yeah, a salute would definitely be pushing it.
You never know, right? 😉
Hahaha. Love this snippet.
Happy birthday! 🎂
Thank you 🙂
Ha! Yes, that probably would be pushing it. 😁
Just a little bit. 😀
Happy Birthday! And sir, yes sir! Why do I feel like that form of address isn’t going to last very long?
It won’t! 🙂
Sounds like he doesn’t like his nickname.
He tolerates it, barely. 😉
Happy birthday 🙂 And I’m not surprised he was keen to be polite 😉
Indeed. 🙂
