Rainbow Snippets June 3-4

Hope you’ve had a wonderful day, so far. 🙂

Here’s a snippet from “Unexpected Journey” published by MLR Press. John (first person) is drunk and a tad…amorous.

“Do you know you’re beautiful?” I said, my words slurring. I reached out to touch his nose and almost poked him in the eye. “I want to kiss you all the time.”

Hollis raised an eyebrow. “That so? You know you’re tipsy, right?”

“Yeah, I gueth, uh, guess so.” I was acting like a lovesick fool, but I couldn’t help it. “Do you have a-a boyfriend?”

“Not at the moment.” He smiled. “Are you applying for the position?”

“I wish I could, b-but I’m justh-just this old guy with no job. I have nothing to o-offer.” And then I belched, to seal the deal.

Classy.

Hi there! Welcome to the weekend. 🙂

Here’s a snippet from “To Life My sole” published by JMS Books. Jim (first person) just asked Lance out for drinks.

Lance leaned a little closer to me. “So I get to see you dressed up. I bet you look sexy in leather.”

“I’m not into that scene,” I scoffed.

“I wouldn’t mind if you were. You could spank me to keep me in line.” His leer was…tempting.

“Enough already. This is your station, right?”

The doors opened and Lance stood. Just before the warning bell for closing went off, he stole a quick kiss and ran out
onto the platform.

Sneaky bastard.

Saturdays are awesome! Sleeping in, watching movies…sigh.

Here’s a snippet from “Romancing the Bouncer” which was re-published today by JMS Books. Monty just shared some of his past about a boyfriend who broke his heart. And then…

Monty stared at me, his gaze solemn and unflinching. “I’m truly sorry, Ben, for what I did to you. I’ll say it as many times as I
need to, until you believe me.”

My book lay on the table, forgotten. “I’m glad you shared this with me, Monty. I’m more sorry than I can say that you went
through such a horrific experience. Your ex should be strung up by his balls on a rusty hook and dangle from the ceiling.”

He gave me a ghost of a smile. “That’s…creative.”

It’s the weekend! I hope you’re having a great one. 🙂

Here’s another snippet from my work in progress called “The Artist’s Mechanic.” Forgive any typos, etc.

My little brother complained that I was a fuddy-duddy at the ripe old age of thirty-five. I never dated, never did anything fun, as far as he was concerned. Only thing I did was work. Oh, and hound his ass about staying in school and cleaning up his damn, funky room. Had our parents been like that when they were still alive? It’d been so long ago, I barely remembered.

As I answered a cheeky text from the runt, who’d just gotten home from his summer job at the local fair, I heard the door to the classroom open. I looked up and saw the art teacher enter the room, even better-looking in person, and a smile that would make even the most hardened cynic melt.

That wasn’t me, though, nuh-uh. I was completely in control of my reactions and was only here to prove a point to my pain in the ass sibling.

Yup.

Rainbow Snippets April 29 – 30

Happy Saturday. I am tired and looking forward to naps today. Hope all is well with you. 🙂

Here’s a snippet from a work in progress called “The Artist’s Mechanic.” Forgive any typos, etc.

Brothers. Gotta love ’em.

My baby brother tricked me.

Okay, so it wasn’t quite a trick, but, he’d somehow shifted his piss poor efforts at getting better grades into, “oh, well you never finished high school so why should I?” after which I reminded him that I got my diploma last year. And then he said, “Well why can’t I do the same thing?” And I retorted, “Because you can do better than that. I want you to have a chance at something good, not become a grease monkey like me.”

After that, he’d crossed his arms, narrowed his too-sharp brown eyes and told me I’d have to do something really big and outside my comfort zone for him to agree, something I’d never do in a million years, just to prove that I was serious about him finishing school. Naturally, he came up with the most embarrassing thing possible—being a nude model for his best friend’s brother’s drawing class for the rest of the summer.

Welcome to the weekend! I hope you have fun things to do. 🙂

Here’s a snippet from “All A Steer Can Do Is Try,” published by JMS Books. Clifford (first person) has just returned to the resort where he met the love of his life, Jet. Bambi, Clifford’s Corgi, is in this scene, too. 🙂

Bambi barked happily when she spotted Jet coming around the side of the building, his arms full of neatly folded towels. As the window was down, her friendly greeting was heard by her other favorite human, and Jet looked up in shock.

I witnessed those poor towels fall to the ground and get trampled in Jet’s haste to get to us. I let Bambi out of the car before she tried to jump out the window and hurt herself.

By the time I made it into Jet’s arms, Bambi had been greeted heartily and had scampered off to reacquaint herself with the resort. I jumped into his arms, legs locked around his waist, as I greeted him as though we’d been apart for eons instead of just a week.
