Rainbow Snippets March 4 – 5

Happy Saturday, my lovelies! It’s sunny here in Atlanta, and probably the last few days of cold air before spring. Oh well…

Here’s a snippet from my story “All A Steer Can Do Is Try'”  published by JMS Books. Cliff is the main character (first person).

I yanked open the door. “I no longer work for you, Lambert Morton, so there’s no reason for you to be here.”

He ran a hand through his hair, and his tie was askew. “I know that, but I…needed to talk to you. May I…come in?” He
seemed weirdly subdued and I wasn’t sure I wanted him inside my newly tranquil space. Better to get it over with, though.

“Fine.” I stepped back. “Make it quick.” He walked by me and I shut the door.

Bambi, comfortable on her dog bed, opened an eye, took Lambert’s measure, then closed it again before farting. My
thoughts exactly. Good girl.

Rainbow Snippets February 25 – 26

Welcome, my dears! I hope your weekend is absolutely wonderful, so far. Mine is filled with coffee, writing and taxes… ick.

Here’s a snippet from my story “The Cookie Said ‘Red'” which was re-released today by JMS Books – woot! Benjy, the head of security in Cisco’s apartment building, has just come to Cisco’s rescue (bad date gone wrong in his apartment.) In this scene, Benjy is taking notes, listening to Cisco as he explains what happened.

“He wouldn’t go. I told him to get out, then he started walking toward me, and the argument escalated. I locked myself in the bathroom, and he banged on the door, yelling at me. That’s when you entered the picture.”

Benjy finished typing and then put his phone away. “I’m glad it wasn’t worse.”

“Me, too. Thank you, Benjy. I owe you my life.” I clasped my hands under my chin and smiled.

The corners of his mouth lifted into something resembling a smile. “Ever the drama queen, aren’t you, Mr. Boyd?”

“Born and bred. I have a tiara in my closet as proof.” That earned me an actual chuckle. He was breathtaking like this.

“Why don’t you call me Cisco, Benjy? It’s easy on the tongue. So am I,” I added…

Another Saturday! How are you? I’m nursing a cold I picked up from–wait for it–the hospital, where I went for an appointment on Thursday. Ugh.

Anyhoooo, here’s a snippet from “Deliver Me”, part of the “Satisfaction Guaranteed” Anthology published by Less Than Three Press. Daniel delivers pizza part time in the evenings to help pay bills while working on his Master’s degree. His boss is a major douche bag, and Daniel has finally had enough.

“Manny! The fuck, dude. There’s no way I’m going to deliver this on time. You know that! If you want to fire me,
why don’t you just do it, okay? This crappy shit ends right now. What do you have against me, anyway?”

“Okay, Danny boy, your faggot ass is fired!” Manny yelled at me. “And you owe me for the pizzas that are
gonna be delivered for free.” The place went silent.

Everyone was staring at us, customers and workers alike. I took a deep breath, put the order down on the
nearby counter top and took out my wallet. I removed a twenty dollar bill and handed it over, then picked up the
pizzas and addressed Manny.

“You know, I always wondered why you picked on me. Then I remembered the first week when you tried to get
into my pants. God knows I tried to forget it. What, you couldn’t take the rejection? Takes one faggot to know one,
dude. Next time you try to get your little pencil dick in someone’s ass, try a shower first, huh? Maybe a breath
mint, too? I almost passed out from the fumes. Have a nice life.” I walked out, not looking back, though I heard some
snickers behind me.

Try to live that one down, you little peckerwood.

It’s Saturday – yeah! I’m putting the finishing touches on a story for submission today. Wish me luck! 🙂

Here’s a snippet from “More Than a Suit: John”, published by JMS Books. It’s between John–the main character–and Tobie, his best friend.

“Since when do you let someone else’s opinion define you?” [Tobie]

“Well, since I realized that the world thinks I’m a self-centered, good for nothing, simple-minded slut.” [John]

“You are not! Well, maybe a little slutty, but you’re harmless. Who do I have to beat up?” Tobie tried to flex his slender frame to be intimidating. Sweet, but not helping.

“Back down, Mini-Me. Thanks, but I’ll be fine. I’ll work through this.” [John]

“You’d better. I miss my sleepy-eyed, over-caffeinated, ass whisperer.” [Tobie]

“Up yours, hon.” [John]

“Got it covered, thanks.” [Tobie]

Happy Saturday! I’m huddled in front of my computer, drinking a mocha peppered with cayenne – yumm. 🙂

Here’s an emotional snippet from “More Than a Suit: Ross”, published today by JMS Books. It’s between Ross, his brother Rhys, and their dad. 🙂

“You’re a perversion to everything that’s decent. I don’t  want you infecting Rhys. You’re not welcome here, not
anymore.” As if I ever was.

“There’s nothing perverted about the way I am, Dad. And you don’t give a shit about Rhys. You’re just using him as an excuse.”

“Revolting, that’s what you are. Fuck off!” Dad tried to shut the door in my face, but I pushed back, hard. He stumbled a little
and fell against a wall. He looked shocked at my strength.

I stepped closer to him. “Where the hell am I supposed to live? And who’s gonna take care of the house now, huh? Are you gonna help Rhys with his homework? Half the time, you’re too drunk to remember your own name!”

The slap across my face came without warning, and the echo of it rang in my ears.

Happy Saturday! It’s cold again in Atlanta. You never know what you’ll get from day to day.

Here’s another snippet from “To Lift My Sole”, published by JMS Books. It’s an interlude between Jim and Lance. Enjoy. 🙂

“You ready for tomorrow?”

“Is that why you really called me?”

“Ostensibly.”

“Ah. Well, yes, I’m ready. It’s at eight, sharp, but I’ll be there at seven to setup and make sure things are just the way I
like them.”

“It’s so hot to hear you talk like that.” Really?

“So, if I tell you that I’ll be wearing a black Armani suit with a white shirt, gold cuff links, and an understatedly expensive tie,
does that turn you on?” I heard an intake of breath. It would appear so.

“My shoes are, of course, exquisite Italian leather. Everything is fitted perfectly to my frame, projecting supreme self-confidence
to everyone around me. I’ll be the man in charge.”

I could hear sheets rustling in the background, and a soft moan. I grinned. “Are you rubbing off to my voice?”

“How could I not?” He’d put me on speakerphone, and his breathing was labored. “Your voice is lethal.”
