Rainbow Snippets September 23 to 24

Happy Saturday!

It’s peaceful and sunny here in Atlanta, except for the car alarm nearby that just won’t stop…sigh.

Good news, though. My newest e-book “Purple Daze” was just published by JMS Books. Woot! 😀

Today, we  continue from last week’s excerpt where Joey encounters Bear in the kitchen. From “Truck Me Back to Normal,” published by MLR Press.

“Morning, Mr. Choi,” Bear greeted me before helping his sister place the food on the table.

“Morning, sir,” I replied.

“His name is Joey, Bear. Why don’t you call him that? You know you want to.” Meg winked at him and he ignored her.

Rainbow Snippets September 16 to 17

Hi, all!

Hubby and I rode out Tropical Storm Irma and came away unscathed, for which we are thankful. Many people in the metro area are still waiting for power, but hopefully that will be taken care of by the end of today or tomorrow.

Also, this past Wednesday was our 19th anniversary! The fact that hubby has put up with me this long still amazes me. LOL!

As for today’s snippet, Joey is in the kitchen with Meg, Bear’s stepsister, waiting for breakfast. He encounters a different version of Bear that leaves him speechless. 😀 From “Truck Me Back to Normal,” published by MLR Press.

Weekday Bear was all about work—stiff, polite, stern. But weekend Bear? The man could out-flame fire. He wore a T-shirt that on a  smaller man would have been ordinary, but on Bear, not quite. It was well worn, with holes here and there that gave me a peek of hot skin I wanted to taste. It molded to his massive chest like it was a part of him. He wore old gym shorts that showcased legs like tree trunks. I wanted to wrap myself around them and hump. Shit, I needed to get myself under control.

I focused on my coffee, happy that my short-sleeved shirt was long enough to cover my groin and save me from embarrassment. This had never happened to me before.

Morning, all!

To those of you in the path of Irma / Jose, I hope you’re as safe and sound as you can be. We will likely get tropical storm strength winds and rain, which means flooding and falling trees since we’ve been dry for a while, in Atlanta.

Hubby is on his way to the farmers’ market to stock us up before the shelves are emptied. For those of you who asked, yes, my husband loved his present! So now, when his legs, knees, and back give him trouble, he has the option to use motorized two-wheeled transport, but otherwise, he’ll still putter around on his bicycle, or use public transit. We are a car-less family. 🙂

Here’s more from Joey in “Truck Me Back to Normal,” published by MLR Press.

That night, as I lay in bed, I thought again about Barrimore Lancett. Bear. He was a man and a half, wasn’t he? Not once had he cracked a smile, but he had dimples cut into his cheeks, so I bet his grin would be spectacular. I wondered what it would take to make him laugh. I doubted I’d ever find out.

By nine o’clock the next morning, every muscle in my body ached, and I’d discovered the aroma of cow shit.

Not my favorite.

Wow, it’s September! Where has the year gone?

Today, I will be presenting my husband with his soon-to-be-60th-birthday-present: a BMW motorcycle. That should be fun. 🙂 In the meantime, more from “Truck Me Back to Normal,” published by MLR Press… Bear speaks first.

“Be here at five-thirty in the morning. Meg will have breakfast ready at that time for all the hands, and then we’ll get started. I’ll show you where you’ll be living, too. You have most weekends off, unless there’s an event of some kind, or the harvest is in full swing.”

I nodded. “Understood. See you tomorrow, Mr. Lancett.” As I walked down the hall, I felt his eyes on me but dared not look
back.

Rainbow Snippets August 26 to 27

Morning, all!

I celebrated my 43rd birthday this week, and I’m feeling great.

Continuing from last week’s excerpt re: “Truck Me Back to Normal,” published by MLR Press…

The foreman stood, and his very height and breadth shrank the room even more. “My name is Barrimore Lancett. I know people call me Bear behind my back but you will call me Mr. Lancett, or sir, to my face. The only person on this compound who is allowed to call me Bear in the presence of others is Meg. She’s my step-sister and part-owner of this farm.”

I stood and shook the hand he held out. “Yes, sir. Thank you, sir.” I almost saluted him, but figured that would be pushing it.

Saturday, again…yeah!

I’m heading out to an Earth, Wind & Fire concert in a couple of hours…it’s currently in the 90s, so I’ll be wearing a hat, at least (and dressed otherwise for heat).

Continuing from last week’s excerpt re: “Truck Me Back to Normal,” published by MLR Press. (Joey in the first person). It’s a few sentences longer than six, for context. (Forgive me.) 🙂

“I’m simply trying to find a way to start again…a new normal, as it were,” I said, “since I will never be a soldier again, though
it was all I ever wanted.” The admission of that truth still hurt, even now.

Bear studied me for a few seconds, and I did my best not to fidget. “The job is menial in the extreme, as you’ll be shoveling shit,
cleaning up after horses, pigs and cows, helping with the planting and the harvest, you name it. If we need a hole dug, a fence fixed, or an extra hand in the kitchen, you’re it. It’s back-breaking work most days, and it’s twelve hours a day, sometimes more. Think you can handle that, Mr. Choi?”

Hard, mindless work was the best medicine for me right now. “Yes, sir.”

“Good. You’re hired.”

Hello, all! How is your day going? I just finished watching Horatio Hornblower – loved it. 🙂

Continuing from last week’s excerpt re: “Truck Me Back to Normal,” published by MLR Press. (Joey in the first person)

Bear cleared his throat and tucked a lock of hair behind an ear. “From your application, it says you were in the army for a long
time, but you haven’t worked since you left. Care to tell me why?”

Well, it would have come out at some point anyway, right? “I had some difficulty dealing with a variety of things as a result
of experiences I had while overseas.”

That was vague enough, wasn’t it?

Rainbow Snippets August 5 to 6

Hiya! It’s a lovely Saturday here in Atlanta, not too hot, and cloudy.

I had a great time last weekend at the concert my hubby and I attended. Still recovering seven days later. I suppose that’s what happens as you get older? Oh well, worth it!

Below follows last week’s excerpt from “Truck Me Back to Normal,” published by MLR Press. Enjoy. 🙂

When his eyes finally met mine, I froze. Jesus, the man was gorgeous, all hard lines, chiseled jaw, steel blue eyes and wavy black hair. Strangely enough, he’d frozen, too, though he recovered much more quickly than I did. I reminded myself that I was here for a job, not to fuck my potential boss.

My dick said, “what a pity.” I ignored it.
