Happy Saturday! I’m huddled in front of my computer, drinking a mocha peppered with cayenne – yumm. 🙂
Here’s an emotional snippet from “More Than a Suit: Ross”, published today by JMS Books. It’s between Ross, his brother Rhys, and their dad. 🙂
—
“You’re a perversion to everything that’s decent. I don’t want you infecting Rhys. You’re not welcome here, not
anymore.” As if I ever was.
“There’s nothing perverted about the way I am, Dad. And you don’t give a shit about Rhys. You’re just using him as an excuse.”
“Revolting, that’s what you are. Fuck off!” Dad tried to shut the door in my face, but I pushed back, hard. He stumbled a little
and fell against a wall. He looked shocked at my strength.
I stepped closer to him. “Where the hell am I supposed to live? And who’s gonna take care of the house now, huh? Are you gonna help Rhys with his homework? Half the time, you’re too drunk to remember your own name!”
The slap across my face came without warning, and the echo of it rang in my ears.

Oof! Well isn’t his dad a little ray of sunshine!
Congrats on the release – I hope it’s off to a fine start! (seeing as I’m commenting almost a week later…)
Thanks – the book is doing very well. 🙂
Good for him for fighting back. By the sound of it his dad is the one who should leave, not him. I hope he sticks around for Rhys’ sake, although otherwise I’d be saying “shake the dust of that asshole off your shoes.”
Agreed!
Grrr. It’s so sad this this is still a reality for many people.
Indeed.
Funny how his father calls him a “perversion” while swearing at him and hitting him. Sounds like he’s better off without his dad, but Rhys needs him there. Very emotional indeed.
It was a very emotional story to write.
Ouch! I don’t like his dad at all!
Me neither.
It sounds like Rhys needs Ross there. A lot of tension in this scene — I hope for Rhys’ sake it eases up.
It will, eventually. 🙂
Good luck with the new release!
Thanks!
Ow…the father is a nasty piece of work!
Yes, he is!
O_o Not a happy family!
Congrats on the new release! 😀
Thank you! 🙂 No, the family is not happy right now, but it all works out in the end – as it should, right? 🙂
Well that’s an ugly slice of home life. I feel sorry for Rhys and Ross. Good luck with the release.
It is, but it gets better. 🙂 Thank you!
